Over 100 farms to take part in Local Dates Exhibition
More than 100 local farms have confirmed their participation in the 9th Local Dates Exhibition, which will be held at the Souq Waqif from Tuesday (July 23) until August 3.
Organised by the Souq Waqif Management in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality’s Agricultural Affairs Department, the exhibition will take place at Souq Waqif’s eastern square.
Souq Waqif Director Mohamed Abdullah Al Salem said all necessary arrangements were completed for the exhibition’s hosting. The exhibition, which will be held inside an air-conditioned tent, will be open to the public from 4pm to 9pm every day. On Fridays, the festival will run from 4pm to 10pm.
“Souq Waqif is a prominent and important heritage and tourism destination for citizens, residents, and tourists. It’s position in the heart of the city also makes it easy for everyone to reach here,” Al Salem was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.
He said the exhibition’s 9th edition will witness the participation of many local farms. All types of date products, as well as date syrups, will be available on sale.
“The exhibition has a great reputation. The previous edition saw record sales of 220 tonnes of dates. We expect the sales to be higher this time due to the high quality of Qatari dates,” Al Salem said.
Agricultural Affairs Department Director Yousef Khaled Al Khulaifi said the exhibition aimed to promote date production in the country and also introduce its various types.
“It encourages local farm owners to display and market their dates directly to the public. It will increase their sales volume and enhance their ability to increase production and develop its marketing methods,” Al Khulaifi said.
The exhibition’s organising committee has set strict conditions for participation. The dates must be good, clean, and free of infection, insects, and impurities. A specialist team will collect samples of the wetlands of participating farms for examination and analysis to ensure they are free of toxic substances and traces of pesticides.
