Over THREE MILLION tourists visited Qatar in 2023, says Qatar Tourism Chairman
Qatar managed to attract more than three million tourists in 2023, making it one of the most popular destinations in the region, said Qatar Tourism Chairman Saad bin Ali Al Kharji on Thursday.
Speaking during the opening of the 26th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism in Doha, Al Kharji said Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and its unprecedented success could be used as a model for other Arab nations to develop their tourism sectors.
He also highlighted Qatar’s hosting of three major international events this year — the Geneva International Motor Show, held for the first time outside Switzerland, the Kiteboarding World Cup, and Expo 2023 Doha for Horticulture, the Middle East’s first international horticulture exhibition.
The country is also gearing up to host several other events, notably the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and the Web Summit conference.
Al Kharji said Qatar was sparing no efforts to develop legislative environments, enhance infrastructure, facilitate administrative procedures, and take enhanced measures to boost the tourism sector while remaining committed to its identity, values, and principles.
He also revealed some investment opportunities that were available in the tourism sector for both Qatari and foreign investors and entrepreneurs.
He said the tourism sector was playing an increasingly important role in different nations’ economic frameworks and driving development in Arab countries.
He added that tourism was one of the most important drivers of economic growth and sustainable development in many countries worldwide over the past three decades.
He noted that enhancing the tourism sector was an important part of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and said the sector would significantly contribute to the national economy in the coming years.
He said Arab nations needed to go for joint programmes, activities, and promotions on a wide scale to develop and support the region’s tourism sector.
He said tourism could not grow to its full potential unless there was a collective effort among all relevant parties and sectors in the country.
He also congratulated Bahrain on Manama’s selection as the Capital of Gulf Tourism for 2024.
