Palestinian photographer Motaz Azaiza nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
Palestinian photographer Motaz Azaiza, known for sharing videos in English about the ground situation in Gaza, said on Friday he had been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.
“I have been nominated for 2024 Nobel Peace prize ‘for giving the world an insight into the atrocities in Gaza.’ Wish me luck and I hope my people to get Peace NOW. Free Palestine,” the 25-year-old photographer said in a social media post.
Azaiza, who initially focused on highlighting the beauty of his country, its traditions, and the daily life of Palestinians, after October 7, 2023, shifted to documenting Israeli attacks on Gaza and the circumstances faced by its people.

Born in Deir Al Balah in the Gaza Strip, Azaiza graduated from Al Azhar University in 2021. He later worked as a cameraman for ABC News, and has volunteered with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The UNRWA has also employed him to document events in Gaza.
In October 2023, 15 members of Azaiza’s family were killed during an airstrike by the Israeli Air Force on his family’s home in the Deir Al Balah refugee camp in Gaza City.
According to the Palestinian News Agency, approximately 100,000 Palestinians have been displaced from Azaiza’s hometown, eastern Deir Al Balah, over the past two days, due to ongoing intense Israeli airstrikes on the city and its surroundings.
