29th Doha International Book Fair set to kick off at the DECC today

Book lovers in Qatar rejoice, for the 29th edition of the Doha International Book Fair is upon us.

The event, which will run from today until December 8, is being organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

More than 420 official publishers, from around 30 countries, are expected to take part in this year’s edition, according to Gulf Times.

A large number of Arab nations are taking part in this year’s exhibition. Russia will be the Guest of Honour, which is in the framework of the Qatar-Russia Year of Culture 2018.

The Russian stall will be organising many lectures, shows and workshops. Visitors will be given an introduction to classical Russian literature, art and culture, reported The Peninsula.

The fair will be open for business from 9am to 9pm every day except Thursday and Friday. While the festival will be open from 9am to 10pm on Thursday, people will be able to visit from 4pm to 10pm on Friday.

The exhibition is being organised over a 29,000SqM area, with the participation of 287 Arabic books publishers, 68 children’s book printers, 17 educational Presses and many foreign books publishing houses.

The fair will also include around 101,992 titles in Arabic and 17, 261 titles in other foreign languages.

There will be many cultural events on the sidelines of the event.
