The Indian Sports Center (ISC), an organization that operates under the guidance of the Embassy of India in Qatar, has announced its plans to organize about 35 major sport events in Doha this year.

The events will include football coaching camp, cricket matches, SAARC community football festival and inter-school girls cricket tournament, amid several others, reported The Peninsula.

President of ISC, Nilangshu Dey, while speaking at a press conference yesterday to announce the organization’s plans for 2019-2020 said, “Under its 2019 annual event calendar, [ISC] has formed 10 sections for games like football, cricket, volleyball & basketball, athletics, golf, aquatics & water sports, table tennis, tennis & badminton, yoga & fitness and ladies games.”

The center aims to identify and encourage talented youth in the Indian community to get involved in sports and games and provide them the professional coaching they may need to further strengthen their skills, the ISC president said.

However, “The foremost objective is to initiate and lead Inter-community tournaments in various games like volleyball, table tennis, cricket, athletics, badminton etc. by collaborating with respective Qatar games federations to promote a friendly and sportsmanship environment among various expatriate communities,” he said.

Dey also mentioned that this year’s Sports Excellence Day is set to take place on September 21. The day honors youth of different ages for their achievements in sports.

The center also focuses on supporting FIFA 2022 and has collaborated with Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for various community engagements since 2017, Dey mentioned.

Abdurahiman E P, Vice President of ISC announced that ISC will start few of its facilities soon on ISC premises including rental option, which is currently under consideration, reported Qatar Tribune.

More than 40 companies are expected to join ISC as corporate members by 2020, Sharafu P Hameed, ISC Vice President (Corporate & Government Relations & Sponsorship) said.
