Amir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah passes away

By QLNews

Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber has died at age 91, Kuwait News Agency announced this evening.

Sheikh Sabah had been the leader of Kuwait since 2006 and had served as the country's foreign minister for almost 40 years from 1963 - 2003 before becoming the prime minister.

This comes as a tremendous loss for Qatar and its people that have always held Sheikh Sabah in high regard and appreciated his consistent efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Gulf region.

His Highness the Amir greatly mourns the death of Sheikh Sabah and has declared three days of mourning in Qatar with flags at half-mast.

Under Sheikh Sabah's leadership, Kuwait and Qatar cemented bilateral ties and expanded cooperation across several domains.

Last year, upon the directives of HH the Amir, Qatar officially launched the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project, in appreciation of the Kuwaiti Amir, reflecting the strength of the relationship between the two nations.

Qatar Living extends their deepest condolences on the passing of the great leader, Sheikh Sabah.

Our thoughts go out to our Kuwaiti friends and family during this difficult time.
