In another major win for Qatar, Senegal sends its envoy back to Doha
The illegal siege of Qatar began on June 5 when four nations — Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — decided to impose an unfair blockade on Qatar.
Several other nations, including Senegal, then recalled their ambassadors from Qatar. However, more than two months into the blockade, Qatar celebrated a major win when Senegal decided to send its ambassador, who had been recalled for ‘consultations,’ back to Doha.
The move came after HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a telephone conversation with Senegalese president Macky Sall, reported Gulf Times.
It is understood that the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and means of boosting it in different fields.
“Senegal has decided to send its ambassador to Doha back to Qatar,” tweeted Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi, Director of the Information Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, according to Andalou Agency.
Senegal had decided to recall its ambassador on June 7, two days after the crisis broke out.
Senegal said it encourages continuation of the ongoing initiatives to resolve the dispute between Qatar and the Saudi-led bloc in the spirit of Islamic solidarity. The country added that it was prepared to support all efforts in this direction, reported Qatar Tribune.
Senegal is a West African nation bordered by Mauritania in the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast, and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest.
