Construction work on most of Doha Metro stations to be completed by end of year
Qatar Rail, which is in charge of the revolutionary Doha Metro project, is confident of completing construction works for all its stations by the end of the year.
The completion of works will then put the Doha Metro on the verge of crucial operational phase, reported Gulf Times.
Abdulla Al Subaie, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Rail, welcomed a delegation from the Advisory Council yesterday.
The delegation, which included HE Speaker of the Advisory Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and a number of council members, paid a visit to the Doha Metro project to review its progress as well as Qatar Rail’s major achievements.
HE the Speaker of the Advisory (Shura) Council was briefed on the progress of Doha Metro and the completed stages and praised the government and the projects it implemented despite the siege circumstances.
The speaker said the Doha Metro project was one of the most advanced transportation undertakings in the region.
“Despite the unjust siege imposed on our country, what I saw during the two visits to Doha Metro and the water security mega strategic reservoirs project in Al Thumama are sources of pride and confidence. It reaffirms the ability of Qatar’s people to make achievements and turn ambitions into reality,” he was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
The tour started with a visit to the Economic Zone station and was followed by a journey on board the Doha Metro to Ras Bu Fontas station. Afterwards, the delegation visited the Doha Metro Depot located in the Ras Bu Fontas area and the main controls centre of the Doha Metro networks to observe the control, surveillance and central operation systems.
“We’ve come a a long way in the implementation of the railways project as we now continue the testing of the trains. By the end of the year, we expect most of the construction work of the stations to be complete, which puts us on the verge of a very important phase, the operational one.
“This phase requires thorough preparations and extensive efforts to achieve the goal we have been working for, that is the provision of a world-class transport system for the people of Qatar,” said Al Subaie.
