A crane reportedly crashed on to the main street on Old Airport road near F-Ring road this morning and caused major traffic flow disruption.

Doha News reported that at least one individual died following the crane accident. It is still unclear if the deceased was the crane operator or someone else.

Those injured in the incident were two Egyptians and an Indian. One of the Egyptians is in critical condition and is being treated at the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) of Hamad General Hospital (HGH).

The victims were rushed to the hospital by an ambulance team of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

The Indian has undergone a surgery, while the other Egyptian also remains admitted at the hospital, said a source.

The crane toppled over between the Ahmed Al Ahmed intersection and the Air Force intersection causing heavy traffic congestion in the area and a partial road closure. The reason for the collapse was not known yesterday.

Photos of the incident have been circulating on social media. The photos show blood splattered on the crane, helmets and safety vests on the ground and debris of the crane crash. A particular photo also shows a figure covered in blue sheet, reportedly the body of the dead individual.

Ambulance and police patrols rushed to the scene following the accident are diverting traffic on to F-Ring road.

On Scene: Video from the crane accident (this video might be disturbing for some)

May the departed soul rest in peace..

It has been learned that the crane was under erection. Bad weather / heavy wind could be the cause at first place. those who gave green signal for the erection to take place are to be held responsible for this incident.

@djseanjohn , i check your profile, u are just a Nigerian storekeeper, you don't know anything about the safety job .... besides don't judge the ability of any nationalities.............just say sorry for your mistake...

Dear QL Friends and safety guys, actually the information what i fetch is, the crane was totally not set up, just the installation was going on... its a high branded crane with capacity of 10 Tons, for such big crane, the foundation was made only around 3*3 mtrs (RCC Concreate) with around (50 Tons), but for such big cranes, the foundation suppose to be minimum 5.5*5.5 to 6 with avarage weigh of 110 Tons...while they are in the aim to install the main jib (boom), they loaded the counter weight approx 4.5 Tons in the installed back jib, all of a sudden the entire installed sections along with the crane foundation got imbalanced and fell down.... yesterdays wind was also a factor in this case!,

not only in Qatar, every countries including Europe and america having similar incidents, the responsible guys must at least read the manufacture specification/recommendation before installing/modifying such equipment.

djseanjohn: While pointing fingers at Indians and Nepalese, you simply forgot to mention Filipinos. They also come in cheap, don't they. Did you deliberately forget them? I believe you did. Then what surety is there that an accident such as this very sad one, would not have taken place with your western Safety people around? I have worked with safety professionals from your part of the world and know how good they are. Want me to cite you cases of safety incidents where safety managers from the west ruled?

WT: I would tend to agree with you. However, till we know the facts , we can't make a judgement.

There could be a number of reasons - negligence, safety, lack of training, ground shifting, metal fatugue etc etc
