Three months after the start of the illegal siege of Qatar, American president Donald Trump has offered to help mediate and end the diplomatic crisis, reported Al Jazeera.

“We’ll be most successful (against terrorism) with a united Gulf Cooperation Council,” he said, while speaking at a joint Press conference with Kuwait’s Emir HE Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah in Washington DC.

Trump said he supported Kuwait’s mediation efforts, but if that did not manage to resolve the Gulf crisis, he would be ‘willing to be a mediator.’

“I think it’s something that's going to get solved fairly easily. We call on our GCC and Egyptian allies to focus on our commitments at that Saudi Arabia summit to continue our joint efforts to drive out and defeat terrorists,” he said.

“Bahrain, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are all essential US partners in this effort. We’ve great relationships with all of them right now, maybe better than we've ever had. We’ll be most successful with a united GCC,” he said.

Meanwhile, HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani welcomed the move,

He held a telephone conversation with the US President yesterday and the two leaders discussed the latest developments related to the Gulf crisis, reported Gulf Times.

Trump briefed HH The Emir on the results of his talks with the Kuwaiti Emir. Sheikh Tamim expressed appreciation for the generous efforts of Sheikh Sabah as well as his keenness to pursue resolving the current dispute.

He also welcomed the position of the US president on the need to resolve the GCC crisis soon.

“If I can help mediate between Qatar and, in particular, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, I would be willing to do so. I think you would have a deal worked out very quickly,” Trump had said, adding that he would offer to host the talks ‘right here in the White House,’ reported Qatar Tribune.

Qatar’s US ambassador Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani said his country is counting on Washington to persuade Saudi Arabia and others to back down.

“We’ve great confidence in the president’s ability to calm this crisis and to resolve it,” Al Thani had said in an interview, according to News 18.
