Education Ministry to issue equivalency certificates online

In a step that would greatly benefit students in Qatar, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has announced a new online service to issue equivalency certificates for school diplomas.
The new service that is in line with Qatar’s digitization efforts complements the Ministry’s existing online services to bring ease and convenience to the public.
The new electronic service will be rolled out in two phases with the first dedicated to private school students in the country and the second for students coming to Qatar from abroad.
Senior officials from the Ministry announced details of the new service at a press conference yesterday.

An equivalency of school certificates is a prerequisite for all students moving from private schools to government schools in Qatar as well as those who finish their secondary schooling from private schools and wish to apply to universities in the country or abroad.
The equivalency certificates are also required for those students who wish to apply for jobs in Qatar.
Keeping the great demand for the certificates in view and to simplify the process, the Ministry launched the new service.
According to Khalid Abdullah Al Harqan, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Education, equivalency certificates are also necessary because private schools follow a different curriculum and they need to be evaluated against the educational standards in Qatar.
For those students who transfer from private to government schools, equivalency certificates are used to determine which level the student can be allowed to enroll in, said the Ministry official.
He further mentioned that based on the different categories of acquiring an equivalency certificate, the process may take between 24 to 48 hours.
The main page for the online equivalency service has three categories including the equivalence of school certificates, the equivalence of university degrees, and the prior approval of university study on private expense.
