First local tea factory inaugurated in Qatar

By QLNews

As the country continues to strive for self-sufficiency in food and related items, another feat has been made in the area with the first local tea factory set up in Doha.

Inaugurated yesterday by His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari , the newly-established factory will carry the Lipton and Red Label brands, according to Qatar News Agency.

Set-up by Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC), the new tea-packaging plant is located in the New Industrial Area that enjoys advanced infrastructure and logistic services.

The plant produces tea packs of different sizes.

At the launch ceremony, HE the Minister said, “The opening of the plant is one of the fruits of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to achieve partnership with the private sector and support them, and encourage them to contribute to the national economy and achieve value addition.”

“It contributes to achieving self-sufficiency in many sectors, including the food products sector in line with National Vision 2030,” he added.

HE the Minister also invited the private sector to take advantage of the several investment opportunities presented by Qatar in various sectors.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of QIMC, HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani said Lipton and Red Label represent more than two-thirds of sales in the domestic market, and the involvement with a global company will be adding quality of the highest standards to the rest of the manufacturing plants in Qatar.

The Lipton and Red Label brands are a part of Unilever Worldwide.
