For the first time since the illegal boycott of Qatar began on June 5, foreign ministers of all Gulf countries met together to set the agenda for the GCC Summit in Kuwait.

It is one of the highest official encounters since the illegal siege began exactly six months ago, reported Al Jazeera.

The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, his Saudi counterpart Adel Al Jubeir, UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash, Bahrain’s Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah Al Dossari, Oman’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Yussef bin Alawi and Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, reported Gulf Times.

Monday’s meeting was held to prepare the agenda for the GCC annual summit in Kuwait City on Tuesday and Wednesday, reported The Peninsula.

It was not immediately known if the foreign ministers and the leaders at the summit would discuss the illegal siege of Qatar, but it is highly likely that they will.

Opening the preliminary meeting, Sheikh Sabah said the GCC’s unity and solidarity remain intact despite ‘various challenges and trials,’ reported Qatar Tribune.

Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the GCC Secretary-General, called for maintaining strategic ties among member states while describing the ministerial meeting as one of the successes of the summit.

Earlier, Sheikh Mohammed had said he hopes the GCC summit would provide a blueprint for ending the regional dispute.

I just hope and pray that the differences get resolved in this meeting and the GCC country members return back to their earlier relations of brotherhood, cooperation and understanding.
