As Qatar continues to ensure the safety of its citizens and residents against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the country is increasing the number of its testing facilities to examine suspected cases and manage them accordingly.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) outlined some preventive measures to follow in case of close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, on its official Twitter page.

Close contact of a COVID-19 case is the one who has a face to face contact for at least 15 minutes or is in the same closed space for at least two hours with COVID-19 case.

If you are a close contact as defined above:

- Isolate yourself at your house or any other facility for 14 days after exposure to the case

- Stay in a separate room

- Use a separate toilet which is not used by anyone else

- Wear a mask when you are leaving your room

- Maintain social distancing with others (at least 2 meters)

- Watch out for fever, cough, sore throat, or flu-like symptoms

If you develop symptoms:

- Call on 16000, they will assess you and advice on what to do next

- Continue to keep yourself apart from other people

- Wear a mask if you need to

- Do not travel on public transportation, use taxis or ride-shares, and do not go to any public places

- If you are seriously unwell and it is an emergency, call on 999 immediately

All other household members should:

- Maintain social distancing from the confirmed case (at least 2 meters)

- Watch out for fever, cough, sore throat, or flu-like symptoms

- Not be subject to self-isolation unless the close contact (defined above) had or developed symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19

If contacts of confirmed COVID-19 patients develop any symptoms, please call on the helpline 16000 and report on their exposure to the patient or developing symptoms.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
