HH the Amir affirms Qatar’s firm support to Palestine

By QLNews

Qatar has spared no effort in supporting Palestine over the years, be it in the form of providing monetary aid, rebuilding houses, extending medical support, or advocating for the Palestinian cause at various international meetings.

The country has once again expressed its support to Palestine in the wake of the recently announced Middle East Peace Plan by US President Donald Trump that has been rejected by the Palestinian leadership and angered the Palestinian people.

HH the Amir held a telephonic conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday to review the developments in Palestine, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

During the phone call, HH the Amir reiterated Qatar’s firm position of supporting Palestine and its people.

He also underlined the significance of Palestinian unity to overcome the prevailing challenges.

HH the Amir stated that Qatar is prepared to work on finding a fair, comprehensive and permanent resolution to the Palestinian issue that must be in line with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

On his part, President Mahmoud thanked HH the Amir for his continuous support to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian effort.

Earlier, Qatar News Agency stated that Qatar appreciates the US President’s efforts toward putting an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, “all solutions should be consistent with international law and the relevant UN resolutions.”

“The success of any initiative to address this seven-decade conflict is dependent upon the engagement of the main parties in serious and direct negotiations based on the principle of international legitimacy and what is consistent with it in the various efforts and proposed plans presented by the US,” the statement added.

It further said that all Arab states, through the Arab League, have adopted in 2002 the Arab Peace Initiative, which articulated a set of principles conducive to a just peace.

“The State of Qatar notes in this context that peace cannot be sustainable if Palestinians' rights in their sovereign state within the 1967 borders, including East Jerusalem, and the right of return are not preserved.”
