With the ongoing efforts to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), relevant authorities in Qatar continue to urge everyone to stay home, practice social distancing and support the healthcare system to cope with the infectious disease.

As most processes, services, and procedures are now being moved online, the country continues to ensure the safety of all while also making sure work is carried out promptly.

Recently, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) pointed out that remote court trials, run through visual communication technology, are proceeding well. This is in addition to distance learning and working from home, which are among the precautionary measures to tackle the virus.

In line with this, the country's leadership and top officials continue to hold meetings via video conferencing.

Yesterday, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment (SCEAI), chaired the council's second meeting in 2020.

The meeting saw the participation of HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, the Deputy Chairman of the Council, and HE the Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Executive Member of the Council, in addition to other council members.

The meeting, which was held as a video conference, covered different topics on the meeting's agenda and the relevant measures to address these.

These included the following:

1. The economic effects of COVID-19 and ways to address and reduce its economic and financial impact. The meeting reviewed the steps Qatar has already taken in this regard and discussed those to be taken in the future.

2. The progress of the implementation of the Second National Development Strategy 2018-2022, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, was also one of the topics discussed during the meeting.

3. Furthermore, the council looked into the newest developments in the energy sector and investment affairs. This was in addition to reviewing the latest updates on the implementation of the Qatarization program for the energy sector coupled with steps being taken to develop local suppliers, localize technical knowledge and increase the capacities of local expertise.

4. The status of the services of the Single Window program was also reviewed by the council. The program is aimed at supporting citizens and investors through unifying procedures for establishing businesses via one electronic service window.

Earlier, in February, HH the Amir had also chaired the first meeting of SCEAI for the year 2020.

Meanwhile, health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
