His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani offered his condolences to the President of China, Xi Jinping, on the victims of the coronavirus outbreak in China.

The novel coronavirus, which initiated from the Chinese city of Wuhan, was recently declared a global health emergency by WHO.

In mainland China, the virus has claimed over 1,000 lives with at least 44,653 confirmed cases nationwide, Al Jazeera reported

In a telephonic conversation, HH the Amir expressed his sympathy to the Chinese leader and the friendly people of China. He also wished a speedy recovery to all those infected with the virus.

HH the Amir said he was confident in China’s abilities to control the epidemic and highlighted Qatar’s willingness to offer a helping hand to China in this situation.

The Chinese President thanked HH the Amir for being there for China. He recognized the solidarity between the two nations and appreciated Qatar’s thoughtful gesture of sending epidemic control materials to China via Qatar Airways.

The two leaders also reviewed strategic relations between China and Qatar, indicating they were satisfied with the level the bilateral ties had reached.

They also affirmed their desire to take the Qatar-China relations to new heights by further enhancing cooperation across different areas, particularly in light of the Silk Road initiative.
