HH the Amir, Rwandan President hold talks, pledge to bolster ties

By QLNews

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Rwanda yesterday to hold official talks with the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame.

The two leaders engaged in fruitful discussions on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them further across different fields, in particular the economic, investment and development sectors.

Part of HH the Amir’s tour to Africa that will see him visiting Nigeria next, the visit to Rwanda encouraged the signing of a number of agreements between the two nations.

The deals were related to air transport and two draft MoUs for cooperation in the fields of sport and culture coupled with one agreement covering tourism and business activities, according to Qatar News Agency.

The signing ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Kigali and gathered a number of Rwandan ministers and senior officials as well as HH the Amir’s accompanying delegation.

Earlier during their discussions, the two rulers exchanged views on several issues of common concern both at the regional and international levels.

According to QNA, relations between Qatar and Rwanda are promising and both sides are determined to further enhance them to serve the friendly peoples through constant consultation and continuous coordination.

Followed by the talks, HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation enjoyed a dinner banquet hosted by President Kagame.

Earlier upon arrival at the Kigali International Airport, President Kagame and a number of Rwandan ministers and senior officials received HH the Amir and the delegation accompanying him.

An official reception ceremony that included a welcome performance by a folkloric Rwandan group was held at the airport.

In a special report on the occasion of the Amir's visit, QNA said the tour was part of Qatar's efforts to build solid relations and strategic partnerships with countries in the African continent.

The visit reflects how Qatar attaches great significance to its relations with various countries of the continent and the nation’s keenness to support and develop them in all sectors.

The tour also recognizes the importance of Africa as a strategic partner and natural extension of the Arab world, a gateway to the world, and a promising arena for building strategic economic, trade and investment partnerships.

Two months ago, HH the Amir met with Kagame at his residence in Munich, on the sidelines of the 55th Munich Security Conference.

During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and ways to boost and develop them, in addition to the most prominent developments regionally and globally.

Qatar-Rwanda bond has been consolidated through an agreement signed between Hassad Food company and the Government of Rwanda in November last year that looks at investment opportunities in the field of agriculture and food.  In addition to this Qatar Airways had also participated in the Aviation Africa Summit, which was held in Rwanda in February this year.

Rwanda's government has succeeded in fighting corruption and in reducing extreme poverty. Its economy is one of the fastest growing economies in the African continent, with textiles, clothing, leather, agricultural crops, livestock, among several other prominent sectors.
