
Lecture on automotive design to be held as part of the 2017 Qatar Germany Year of Culture

Every year, Qatar Museums runs a Year of Culture, and in 2017 Germany is the host country for the Year of Culture programme. Through a variety of exhibitions, festivals and events, the Year of Culture promotes mutual understanding, recognition and appreciation between nations.
People are invited to discover their cultural similarities, as well as to explore their differences.
As part of the Qatar Germany Year of Culture and the exhibition 'Driven by German Design' at Al Riwaq Gallery, Qatar Museums, Volkswagen Group Culture, the German Embassy and the Goethe-Institut invite experts from various design disciplines to offer insights into their work and talk about future challenges for designers. The program addresses young creatives, Qatari design students and design enthusiasts.
Peter Wouda addresses the evolution of German automotive design: from the beginning to today’s developments and ideas for tomorrow. He also speaks about the future of mobility which includes self-driving vehicles, and he gives insights into the current work of his team at the Volkswagen Group Future Center in Potsdam.
The lecture will be held at Qatar Museums' gallery, Al Riwaq, at 5:30 pm today on the 15th of November. The lecture will be held in English, and admission is free.
Peter Wouda
Design Director Vehicle at Volkswagen Group Future Center Europe
Peter Wouda studied Transportation design in Pforzheim and London. Since he graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 1996, he has been working as a designer for the Volkswagen Group.
Peter started his career in Volkswagen Headquarters in Wolfsburg before going to Skoda, where he was leading the Exterior Design between 2000 and 2006.
He was responsible for the exterior design of the second generation Skoda Octavia, Skoda Fabia and the Skoda Roomster as well as the concept cars Roomster and Yeti. Since 2006 he has been leading the Exterior Design Department in Volkswagen Group Design Studio in Potsdam, near Berlin.
Together with his international team, he has been responsible for creating 12 showcars and many proposals for production designs for Volkswagen and other group brands such as Audi, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ducati and Porsche. His team created the designs and final appearance of the Volkswagen XL1, among many others.
Today Peter Wouda is responsible as Design Director for all vehicle concepts that are under development in the Volkswagen Group Future Center Europe.
With his team he is working on designs and mobility solutions for future vehicles and mobility concepts of the Volkswagen Group. The first Volkswagen Group Concept car “SEDRIC” - presented in 2017, was developed under Peter Wouda's leadership.
