MoI official cautions travelers against carrying other people's belongings without checking content

By QLNews

Travelers to Qatar shouldn’t carry any belongings of other people without first checking the content, an official from Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has warned.

The official spoke during a virtual seminar, organized by the Department of International Studies and Affairs of the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement, together with MoI’s Public Relations(PR) Department yesterday.

Bringing together a number of other officials, the seminar showcased awareness tips on self-protection against drugs and preventing drug abuse and trafficking.

Officer of Media and Awareness Section at the MoI’s PR Department, Lieutenant Abdullah Qasim, led the seminar and highlighted some of the ways people can protect themselves from the dangers of drugs.

During his talk, he spoke about the types of medicines and medical drugs that are strictly not allowed in Qatar or can’t be used without approved prescriptions.

The official cautioned travelers to Qatar to avoid carrying the belongings of other people without first ensuring the content.

“Don’t carry any material of others without making sure of their content. Because the carrier bears full criminal responsibility if these materials are prohibited in the country,” he said.

“Avoid bringing any suspicious substances or drugs. Because some narcotic substances and medicines may be allowed to be used in the home country, but they may be banned in Qatar,” he added.

In this regard, he noted that one should consult the government health institutions to get medicines.

Additionally, the MoI official mentioned that individuals who fail to inform authorities about drug abuse or trafficking done by roommate(s), will be held accountable as security is the responsibility of all.

Incidents relating to drug abuse or trafficking can be communicated to 2347000 and drug@moi.gov.qa.
