Msheireb Museums launches contest for creative designers in Qatar

By QLNews

Msheireb Museums, the cultural and tourist destination at Msheireb Downtown Doha, has launched its first design competition for creative designers starting from September 15, 2020.

Msheireb Museums announced the open invitation to create a unique souvenir product that represents Msheireb Museums or Msheireb Downtown Doha.

The competition is open to designers, students, innovators, and the general public. It is open to ages 18 and above and those participating must hold a valid Qatar Residency Permit and Qatar ID.

Msheireb Museum and MP employees or first-degree siblings are not eligible to participate in the competition.

Registration for submission will be closed on November 20, 2020, and will undergo two phases of selection.

The final Verdict and Awards will be announced in the second half of January 2021.

Dr. Hafez Ali, Director of Msheireb Museums said, "Msheireb Museums enriches the creative landscape in Qatar, and this competition is an opportunity for designers to showcase their skills and innovations. The gift items' Sogha' is one of our core legacy components in Qatar and a critical item to promote Msheireb and Qatar's legacy among new generations. The winning designs will be displayed at our Gift Shop where visitors can see and buy them. This initiative comes under Msheireb Museums' social responsibility to support the creative community and youth designers".

The submitted designs will be evaluated according to specific criteria, such as uniqueness and creativity of the design, use of Msheireb Museums, and or Msheireb Downtown Doha concepts. Besides, it is an essential requirement that the project has not been submitted to other competitions.

A special jury committee made up of members of Msheireb Museums and Msheireb Properties from various professional backgrounds, including Museums, Design, Retail, and a member of Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar, will evaluate the submissions and choose three winners.

The winning designers will receive prizes of QR15,000, QR10,000 and QR5,000, and have their names acknowledged on all sold merchandise of their designs.

Msheireb Museums organizes creative exhibitions that shed light on Qatari heritage and history.

The Museums celebrate the history of four historic heritage houses in the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha. Located within the oldest part of the capital, they form an essential part of Qatar's national history.
