New schools and kindergartens ready for 2015-2016

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion and delivery of 22 schools and 11 kindergartens in Doha and the surrounding areas to the Supreme Education Council (SEC) in preparation for the 2015-2016 academic year.

The total cost of the new batch of schools exceeded QR1.6bn.

Construction followed the standard design model. The standard type of schools comprises 25 classrooms to accommodate about 650 students and facilities, including science, languages and IT laboratories, sports and art halls, multipurpose halls, gyms, libraries, classrooms, external spaces comprising shaded parking areas, playgrounds and services buildings.

As per design, KGs will have 12 classrooms to accommodate 240 children, shaded playing and activity areas, music, languages and computer rooms, a library, external spaces comprising shaded parking areas, green areas and services buildings.

Designs are in line with the Qatari code for people with special needs, providing ramps at entrances and exits with specifications for bathrooms and other areas.

They also comply with safety requirements adopted by Global Fire and Security Systems and sustainability elements and green and smart buildings requirements. [Qatar News Agency]
