Over 900 vehicles cross Abu Samra border in three days: Qatar Customs
The reopening of the Qatar-Saudi airspace, land, and sea borders has brought joy and excitement for many in the two Gulf States.
The decision served as a precursor to the historic agreement signed between the leaders of the GCC nations, who pledged to restore ties and strengthen cooperation for the region's stability, unity and prosperity.
As the Abu Samra border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar was reopened on January 9, 2021, a total of 920 vehicles have crossed the border in the last three days.
In a tweet on its official Twitter page, Qatar Customs announced that out of these 835 vehicles crossed the border to enter Saudi Arabia while 85 came through it toward Qatar.
Director of the Land Customs Department, Murshid Shaheen Al Kuwari said that the authority began its operations at the Abu Samra border after receiving the instructions. He mentioned that several X-ray inspection devices are being utilized at the border.
Earlier this week, Qatar’s Government Communications Office (GCO) said that a series of precautionary measures will apply to all arrivals at the Abu Samra border crossing.
As of January 9, 2021, the following procedures have been in place:
- All arrivals to Qatar from the Abu Samra border crossing are required to take a COVID-19 test and get a virus-free certificate no more than 72 hours before travel.
- All arrivals will have to quarantine at a hotel for one week. The hotel accommodation should be booked via ‘Discover Qatar’ before arrival.
- All those who travel from Qatar via the Abu Samra border crossing, must reserve for hotel quarantine for the date of return before leaving the country.
- All arrivals must sign a formal pledge to comply with hotel quarantine as well as adhere to the quarantine policies and conditions. The arrivals must download the Ehteraz app (for COVID-19 infection tracing).
