Qatar hails Kuwaiti Emir’s call for calm and reconciliation
Ever since the illegal siege of Qatar began on June 5, Kuwait has been a voice of reason and reconciliation. Kuwaiti Emir HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah has been at the forefront to try and resolve the crisis.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry extended its appreciation to the Kuwaiti Emir for his untiring work at bringing the regional conflict to an end, reported Gulf Times.
The Foreign Ministry hailed the appeal made by the Kuwaiti Emir to preserve the rights of future generations by the current generation of Gulf leaders.
Addressing the opening session of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, HH Sheikh Sabah had said that the current situation should not be escalated and that the wounds created now should be healed soon.
The statement underlined that Qatar has a strong belief in the fairness of its position in this crisis and its adherence to dialogue based on mutual respect, on the basis of its principles and values, reported The Peninsula.
These principles are not new and are not reflections of the current circumstances. Qatar has always been in pursuit of unity in the Gulf, the statement added.
“Despite the systematic media campaign targeting its symbols, government and people, and the unfair and illegal measures it has been subjected to during the past months, Qatar has proudly preserved the civilised and moral position of the Qatari people,” Qatar Tribune quoted the statement as saying.
Earlier, the HH Sheikh Sabah said that the only objective of the Kuwaiti mediation in the Gulf crisis was to reform the Gulf house ‘which is our home and protect it from collapse.’
He pointed out that history and future generations would not forgive anyone "who contributes, even with one word, to fuel this dispute or be part in it, stressing that the GCC is a promising glimmer of hope in the darkness of Arab action and the candlelight that illuminates the long tunnel and a model to be followed in cooperation," according to Kuwait's News Agency (KUNA).
Sheikh Sabah stressed the need to maintain calm and avoid conflict in an attempt to overcome the crisis.
