Qatar sends urgent medical aid to Lebanon, upon HH the Amir's directives

By QLNews

Qatar has once again extended support beyond its borders and offered urgent help to a brotherly nation.

Yesterday, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani directed urgent medical aid to the Republic of Lebanon, "in support of the efforts of brothers in Lebanon to fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic," Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Following from this, Qatar sent urgent relief materials to Lebanon that included medical equipment and supplies.

The shipment was sent through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and weighed about 10 tonnes.

According to QFFD, the support adds to Qatar's efforts to support friendly countries in overcoming the major health challenge.

The help also comes as a contribution from Qatar toward global efforts to fight the disease and prevent its spread, as it poses a threat to the whole world.

Under the same ambition, Qatar has been supporting Italy to combat the virus. According to an earlier QFFD statement, the country is sending about 260 tonnes of aid to Italy via 12 flights.

So far, the shipment sent to Italy has included medical equipment and supplies such as masks, sterilizers, and medical disinfectants, among other essential medical items.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar has offered support in the form of relief aid and assistance to a number of countries.

In February, Qatar Airways became the first international airline to offer emergency relief flight delivery to China. The airline carried about 300 tonnes of medical supplies to the East Asian country.

The country also sent over 13 tonnes of relief aid including medical equipment and supplies to Iran to help the country fight the virus.

Qatar has also extended a helping hand to Palestinians in Gaza, upon the directives of HH the Amir. The Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza together with the Qatar Fund for Development initiated the process of disbursing cash assistance to as many as 100,000 needy families in the Gaza Strip at the end of March.

Meanwhile, health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
