The illegal siege of Qatar, which began exactly five months ago, has not affected the country’s position as one of the safest in the region and the entire world.

Qatar has been ranked 30th in the world in the Global Peace Index 2017, the highest rank for a country from the entire Middle East. Among other GCC countries, Kuwait (58th), UAE (65th), Oman (70th), Bahrain (131st) and Saudi Arabia (133rd) come next.

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said that the country made giant strides in the areas of security, peace, competitiveness, combating financing of terrorism and money laundering and thus earned the confidence of international institutions and bodies, according to Gulf Times.

The ministry stressed that these achievements proved Qatar’s ability to deal with all the conditions and crises that plague the region.
Qatar was ranked globally sixth in the combat organised crime index, and ninth in satisfaction and public confidence index in services provided to the public. They were also ranked 12th in the world in the lowest expenditure related to terrorist acts, reported The Peninsula.

The MoI has also been able to achieve successes in other areas, most importantly, the significant decrease in rates of registered crimes and drug crimes since the beginning of the siege imposed on Qatar, reported Qatar Tribune.

In addition, Qatar has occupied advanced positions in the regional, global and GCC rankings in the Global Competitiveness Index (2014-2017) in various sectors, the most important of which are combating crime, violence and terrorism, public satisfaction and confidence in the services provided by the police.

In Qatar, major crimes accounted for 3% of the total number of criminal offenses committed in 2016. At the same time, the rate of major crimes decreased by 12.9% in the same year.
