There is a 21% drop in traffic violations in first six months of 2018, says statistics

Qatar’s traffic department has been working overtime to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians in the country.
They had initiated a number of programmes to educate drivers about driving safely in the country and the efforts seem to be paying off handsomely.
According to latest statistics by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the number of traffic violations in the first six months of 2018 has dropped by 21.1%, when compared to the same time frame last year, reported Gulf Times.
A total of 830,318 traffic violations were registered by the MoI until June this year.

It seems people in Qatar are keen to improve the stats regarding traffic violations even further, with at least 37% of them saying an increase of fines were necessary for reckless drivers who jumped the red signal, reported The Peninsula.
The General Directorate of Traffic, which organised the poll on its official Twitter handle, found that around 33% wanted to maintain the status quo regarding fines for red light violations.
At present, jumping a red signal will set you back by QR6,000 and give 7 black marks against the driver’s license.
Around 23% of the respondents said the current fine was too high and it needed to be reduced. Around 7% of the 4,000 voters said they did not have an opinion about the subject.
Meanwhile, the MoI set a new record with regard to the number of transactions that were done through its various departments during the first six months of the year.
A total of 49,084,450 transactions were recorded in all, which is a 4.5% rise over the corresponding period last year, reported Qatar Tribune.
