Rodrigo Duterte - the controversial Philippine president - is coming to Qatar! Are you excited to meet the beloved "Father" of the Filipino people?

Rodrigo Duterte, popularly known as "Tatay Digong", is the 16th and current president of The Philippines.

An outspoken and unconventional leader, the 71-year-old is the oldest person to have become the nation’s president. He took to office with a landslide election win and boasts of a huge fan following among fellow Filipinos.

In a few months, Duterte is set to become the first president from his country to visit Qatar after Gloria Macapagal Arroyo did so in 2008.

For the last several months "Tatay" or "Father" Digong has been waging a brutal war against drug users in the Philippines. He has been racking up the body count and scoring victories that have won him millions of admirers at home and abroad.

His visit to Qatar - and the Philippine government's proposal to share some islands with the royal families of the middle east - is intended to make the relationship between the two countries more cordial than ever before.

Negotiations are currently on regarding leasing of some of the Philippines’ 7,100 islands to Qatar-based Al Nitaq company, to turn them into agroforestry and agro-industrial zones, energy centres, and tourist destinations.

It is a foregone conclusion that his countrymen in Qatar will welcome him with open arms. After all, they had gifted him an overwhelming win when votes of Qatar-based Overseas Filipino Workers were counted last May. He received nearly 80% of total votes cast at the Philippine embassy in Doha — 12,475 out of a total of 15,694.

Welcome to Qatar, President. Your kabayan brothers and sisters are waiting with bated breaths!

I hope we should not be too judgmental enough especially if we know less of what we are expressing. Let's try to be objective. This MAN from the Philippines doesn't need any recognition at all but has been humbly working hard to rescue his people from the dooms of "death" caused by drugs and poverty. He is well loved by his people despite his "indecency", has made them feel safer after assuming the seat of presidency and even acknowledged by leaders of foreign countries for his strong leadership. We cannot please everybody though and so does HE. Our unsolicited opinions are still welcome. He is not vying for sainthood whether or not people like him. Simply doing things for the welfare of his citizens.

@Mufti Shahid: first of all YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN of the PHILIPPINES. second You don't know what's really happening there because you have never step your foot on philippine soil. Third I strictly advise you to don't rely information on mere media. fourth Don't ever compare this man to hitler because this man united the people Muslims, Christians,Buddhist. He united Tagalogs, Malays, Spanish Filipinos, White Filipinos, Chinese and Indian Filipino brothers HE IS NOT A BIGOT. He is not a saint He is our HERO our Mahatma Gandhi so that you could understand it completely. Fifth Yes by all means you have the right to express your opinion just don't fabricate stories and tell lies because it will piss a lot of people. We are not interfering in south asian politics because it's NONE of our business you have no Idea of our struggle so please stay with your own people's politics.

Hamza, Even Hitler was liked by people when he took over Germany. This is a public forum and I have every right to express my opinion.

So what if he is liked by people. That doesn't make him a saint.

@Mufti Shahid: "Credit Goes to him for thousands of extra-judicial killings. How do you know that he is responsible for them? He is loved by the filipino people because he keeps us safe who are you to insult him when the filipino people elected him as their leader He is the leader who ended discrimination against Filipino Malays and other filipino muslims. My advice to you my friend is stay with the south asian politics(I presume where you from) or with your own country stay away from other country's politics that you have no business with.

Nice article. but just for some correction - "He is waging a brutal war against "DRUG ADDICTION" and "DRUG LORDS" not DRUG USERS. Drug users have been taken by the phil. govt. to be rehabilitated on several newly build drug rehab centers all across the country. hope this clarifies the matter.
