WATCH: HH the Amir directs sending urgent relief aid to Sudan

Qatar has always been one of the first countries to extend a helping hand to Sudan in times of need.

Last year, the country affirmed its full support to ensure Sudan’s stability and sovereignty and backed the formation of the new Sudanese government, calling it an important step toward the realization of the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Qatar also delivered relief-aid to flood-stricken areas in Sudan to alleviate the suffering of thousands of families affected by the natural disaster.

Now, as Sudan faces another catastrophe where floods this year have injured 46 people, inflicted damage on more than half a million people and caused the total and partial collapse of more than 100,000 homes, Qatar has once again stepped up to offer assistance to the brotherly country.

His Excellency Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani held a telephonic conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of the Sudan Dr Abdalla Hamdok last evening, during which he expressed his sincere condolences on the victims of the floods that swept through several regions in Sudan.

HE the PM wished a speedy recovery for all those injured in the floods. He also informed the Sudanese PM of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to send urgent relief aid to Sudan to minimize the impact of these floods.

Dr Hamdok expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the aid as well as for Qatar's constant support to Sudan.

The Sudanese Security and Defence Council has declared a national state of emergency for three months due to the flooding this year which has shattered records set during the years 1946 and 1988, Al Jazeera reported.
