HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with US president Donald Trump earlier on Tuesday, April 10th in Washington.
The highly anticipated visit is HH the Emir's first since Donald Trump became president of the United States. He arrived in Tampa, Florida on April 6th at the US Central Command.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Trump praised his country’s ties with Qatar as the two leaders discussed a range of issues including the ongoing blockade of Qatar.
“The US and Qatar have been great friends in so many ways and are working very well together,” Trump told reporters, after the meeting, according to Al Jazeera.
“We’re working on unity in that part of the Middle East and I think it’s working out very well. There’re lot of good things happening,” he added.
“We’re making sure that terrorism funding is stopped in the countries that we’re really related to, because I feel related,” Trump was quoted as saying by the New York Times.
“But those countries are stopping the funding of terrorism, and that includes U.A.E. and it includes Saudi Arabia, it includes Qatar and others. A lot of countries were funding terrorism and we’re stopping it,” he said.
HH The Emir tweeted out a message speaking about the success of his meeting with Trump and their mutual agreement of a fast resolution to the Gulf crisis through dialogues.
