Hypermarkets increase direct food imports from many countries
Leading hypermarkets in Qatar have taken steps to bolster stock of fresh food items as well as other food products. Most of them have assured that fresh food items from a number of countries will begin arriving in their depots starting today, reported Gulf Times.
Quality Group has increased direct import of food by air from a number of nations in Asia, Europe and Far East.
A Safari Mall official said they were getting fresh fruits and vegetables from Oman and Iran. A Family Food Centre official said fresh chicken from Oman will start arriving from today.
MEC strengthens efforts to popularise Qatari dairy products
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has started intensifying efforts to further popularise Qatari dairy products through social media platforms.
The move will not only help those experiencing difficulties in getting fresh milk and other dairy products but also likely give each of the locally made brands a considerable push in the local market, reported Gulf Times.
At least five local dairy products, including two which were launched recently, stand to gain from the ministry’s campaigns.

Turkish exporters ready to meet Qatar’s food/water demands
Turkish exporters said they are ready to meet demand for food and water from Qatar, the head of Turkey's main exporting trade body said yesterday, according to The Peninsula.
Mehmet Buyukeksi, chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), said exporters stood ready to fill the gap after the UAE and Saudi Arabia cut trade ties with Qatar.
Qatar's ports and airports remained open to trade with countries not taking part in the Saudi-led boycott, a government official said.
Enough food stocks in Qatar for about 12 months
Qatar Chamber Chairman Shiekh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani said Qatar had stocks of food and other consumer goods which will last them for the next 12 months, according to The Peninsula.
There will be no shortage of food items and other materials as over 95% of Qatari imports come through the air and sea, he added.
He said this during QC’s recent meeting with more than 40 major food supplies importer companies.
