This weekend, get your woollens out and prepare for a significant drop in temperature
People in Qatar have reasons to be happy as the temperature is expected to get significantly cooler over the weekend.
Qatar’s Met department has said that strong northwesterly winds, from Thursday until Saturday, will lead to a significant reduction in temperature. High waves and dusty conditions have also been forecast during this period, reported Gulf Times.
The weather office has urged people to be cautious and avoid going to the sea during this period. It also requested them to follow the official channels to keep up to date about weather details.
Yesterday, the Met department said a ‘ridge of high pressure’ was expected to affect the country from dawn Thursday until Saturday (January 12). It will be accompanied by ‘fresh to strong’ northwesterly winds.
These conditions are expected to result in high waves and rising dust, especially in open areas, as well as a significant drop in temperature. The mercury level will go down by about four to six centigrades compared to the previous days.
During this period, the maximum temperature in Doha is expected to drop to 22°C and the minimum to 15°C. The lowest temperature of 10°C and less is expected in Qatar’s southern regions, according to The Peninsula.
The chill winds late at night and the mornings are expected to make the conditions feel colder than the actual temperature.
Offshore, the wave height is expected to range from 4ft to 8ft during the period, going up to 13ft at times.
Meanwhile, today’s forecast says there will be strong winds by late tonight, while poor visibility is likely in most areas in the morning.
The wind speed may go up to 12 to 22 knots by late at night in inshore areas and 15 to 25 knots in offshore areas towards the North.
Today, the minimum temperature expected in the country is 14°C in Al Khor, while in Doha it will be 18°C. The maximum, on the other hand, will be 28°C in Doha and Abu Samra.
