The two-day Earthna Summit 2023 is featuring the Earthna Village, a public area in Baharat Msheireb, that is displaying indigenous, sustainable practices spanning cultural, environmental, and social sustainability. Earthna Village has been divided into three thematic zones: the sea; food and ancestral tools; and textiles and crafts.

On the first day of the summit, visitors got the opportunity to learn about Al Sadu indigenous textiles – a traditional weaving done by Bedouin women; techniques in shipbuilding that are very rooted in Qatari heritage and are centuries old; medicinal plants that are native to the region; wild clays of Qatar; and protecting and conserving Omani natural treasures. 

The theme of the two-day summit is “Building New Sustainability Pathways for Hot and Arid Environments”, and has brought together sustainability experts and policymakers including indigenous peoples to learn from each other and exchange knowledge.

The interactive element of the summit is designed to examine solutions to the challenges of climate change, some of which come from recent innovations and others that stem from cultural heritage and may contribute to current sustainability efforts.
