
Qatar 58th in new FIFA world rankings, sixth-best in Asia

The Qatar national football team moved up three places in the newly-released FIFA world rankings, finishing 58th in the month of June.
The national team, currently competing in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup hosted by Canada and the US, scored 1393.52 points to emerge as the sixth-best side in Asia and the Arab world. The reigning Asian champions had been placed 61st in FIFA’s rankings for April.

Qatar’s best ranking came in August 2021 when it climbed to 42nd spot, following their run to the semifinals of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The team jumped 16 spots, making it their highest ranking since the establishment of FIFA ranking in 1991.
Japan are the highest-ranked Asian side, finishing in 20th spot, ahead of Iran (22), Australia (27), South Korea (28) and Saudi Arabia (53). Among Arab sides, Morocco (13), Tunisia (31), Algeria (33) and Egypt (34) are the only sides ahead of Qatar.
Qatar are the second-highest-ranked team in the GCC, after Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, UAE (72), Oman (73), Bahrain (86) and Kuwait (141) follow in that order.
Current world champions Argentina top the table, followed by FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 runners-up France, Brazil, England, Belgium, Croatia, The Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Spain in the top 10.
