Qatar Airways joins ICAO Global Coalition for Sustainable Aviation
Qatar Airways has announced its participation in the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Global Coalition for Sustainable Aviation, making it the first airline from the Middle East to join the global coalition.
The initiative confirms its commitment to cooperate with key industry players, such as manufacturers, universities, governments, and non-governmental organizations, to decarbonize aviation and promote sustainable air travel.
The ICAO Global Coalition promotes sustainable international aviation by providing a platform for stakeholders to exchange fresh ideas and accelerate creative solutions to minimize greenhouse gas emissions at the source.
It also aims to contribute to the development and execution of a range of initiatives, as well as the investigation of a long-term environmental objective for international aviation.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “It is innovation that will drive the industry forward for a sustainable future. I strongly believe that the ICAO Global Coalition for Sustainable Aviation will allow industry-leading partners to pursue collaborative creation and drive innovation together.
“Qatar Airways is looking forward to being a strategic collaborator in the coalition. We expect to work together with other members in developing ideas and strategies to facilitate a further acceleration of innovative green technologies, taking us a step closer towards net-zero emissions,” he added.
The coalition brings together stakeholders working on a wide range of themes connected to sustainable aviation, such as sustainable aviation fuels, infrastructure, operations, and technology, and it searches for trendsetters when recruiting new members.
Moreover, its main objectives are to raise awareness of the sector's ongoing efforts in reducing CO2 emissions from international aviation, to build on existing leadership and champions, and to strengthen present collaborations and innovations.
Qatar Airways will be able to share its previous and ongoing CO2 emission-reduction measures and initiatives, as well as provide useful insights to all stakeholders, in order to contribute to the ICAO's work.
