Qatar to announce starting time of four-day truce in Gaza in a few hours
Qatar, Egypt and the USA are working out details on the execution of the humanitarian pause in Gaza, between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and an announcement is expected within a few hours.
Dr Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari, official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), said in a statement that talks were continuing and progressing positively.
He said the announcement of the date and other details of when the pause agreement will come into force will be revealed during the coming hours.
“Continuous talks are ongoing with the two parties and our partners in Egypt and the USA to ensure the rapid start of the truce and to provide what’s necessary to ensure the parties’ commitment to the agreement,” he said.
On Wednesday, Qatar announced the success of its mediation efforts in Gaza, resulting in an agreement for a humanitarian pause.
The agreement includes the release of 50 civilian women and children hostages currently held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of a number of Palestinian women and children detained in Israeli prisons.
The number of those released will be increased in later stages of implementing the agreement. The humanitarian pause will also allow the entry of a larger number of humanitarian convoys and relief aid, including fuel designated for humanitarian needs.
