Qatar calls for immediate ceasefire, peaceful transfer of power in Afghanistan
Qatar has called for an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in all Afghan territories.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday released a statement highlighting that it is closely keeping track of the quick developments in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The Ministry reiterated the need to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, leading to a comprehensive political settlement that includes all Afghan parties to ensure Afghanistan’s security and stability.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of the people in all Afghanistan territories.
The Ministry affirmed Qatar’s commitment to continue working with the United Nations and international partners to reach lasting peace in Afghanistan in a way that assures the security, stability and development of its people.
Yesterday, the Taliban fighters took over the presidential palace in Afghanistan soon after the country’s President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, Al Jazeera reported.
This is, perhaps, one of the saddest images I've seen from #Afghanistan. A people who are desperate and abandoned. No aid agencies, no UN, no government. Nothing. pic.twitter.com/LCeDEOR3lR— Nicola Careem (@NicolaCareem) August 16, 2021
As the Taliban officials confirmed they had taken over most of the districts around the capital, the city seemed to move into a state of panic.
Chaotic scenes emerged at the airport as “hundreds of people tried to forcibly enter planes leaving the Afghan capital,” Reuters reported.
"Dozens of countries from around the world are calling on all involved in events in Afghanistan to respect and facilitate the departure of foreign nationals and Afghans who wish to leave the country," according to Al Jazeera.
