Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting least developed countries (LDC).

HE explained that Qatar is working towards assisting LDCs in implementing an ambitious, comprehensive, and forward-looking program of work that promotes human dignity and achieves sustainable development goals.

This was stated during her Excellency's speech at a virtual event held on the sidelines of the 2021 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).

HLPF was held this year under the theme 'Building Back Better to Realize the SDGs in LDCs: Accelerating Action to Achieve Inclusive, Sustainable, and Resilient Recovery - Approaches on the Road to the LDC5 Conference in Doha.'

"I greet you from Qatar, the host country of the upcoming 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, in which a new program of work for the decade 2021-2030 will be adopted, an occasion that provides an ideal opportunity to stimulate transformation measures to overcome the challenges faced by the least developed and Landlocked Developing Countries by 2030, it is the year in which we committed ourselves to deliver on our promise to achieve all the Sustainable Development Goals," said HE during the forum.

HE stated that the least developed nations are believed to be our battleground in the fight to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality, combat hunger, and achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

When everyone was racing to fulfill the objective of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, HE remarked, the epidemic impeded some of the progress that had been accomplished.

With this setback, many people will fall short of the Sustainable Development Goals, putting our commitment to leaving no one behind in jeopardy.

In times like these, the values of solidarity, pluralism, and cross-border collective action in the face of global issues must be cherished, strengthened, and consistently mobilized.

HE pointed out that the COVID-19 outbreak has taught everyone a lesson and that the crisis knows no bounds. As a result, everyone must take action now to prepare for tomorrow.

"Now is the moment, to design bold actions and invest in building the resilience of individuals and communities to overcome the long-term development challenges and prepare better for future crisis. We will strive to realize the sustainable development goals ambitions and work hand in hand to put together a strengthened framework to support LDCs," HE added.

HE Al-Kahter recalled the enormous human potential of developing countries, full of extraordinary hope. It is important that people be at the center because they know and understand the problems, not to mention the young people, who account for almost 90 percent of the biggest generation of youth in the LDC.

HE added that countries have endless potential to promote effective solutions and social progress, and all of us must enhance our partnerships, collaboration and exploit this potential to the advantage of all mankind.

With the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries approaching, HE explained that Qatar is delighted to welcome everyone to this highly important event.

Moreover, the State of Qatar is committed to working with all to assist LDCs in implementing an ambitious, comprehensive, forward-looking, human-centered program of work that leaves no one behind, upholds human dignity, and achieves the Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, all countries will continue to strive to realize these ambitions and work together for an enhanced framework to support them.
