Qatar to conduct 'Watan' exercise in November to showcase security readiness for FIFA World Cup 2022

By QLNews

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) today announced that the country’s security forces will participate in the biggest-of-its-kind security exercise, ‘Watan,’ to showcase the country’s security preparedness for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

In a press release published on its Twitter page, MoI said that the exercise will be conducted from November 15 to 17, under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Head of the Security Committee of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,  Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.

Watan will “test the readiness and integration of tasks and duties to guarantee a secure hosting of sports events held in Qatar,” the Ministry stated.

Several military, administrative, and service authorities concerned with the hosting of the historic World Cup in Qatar will take part in the Watan exercise.

Watan seeks to enhance “the role of the concerned authorities while executing their regular missions and additional tasks during the World Cup to assess the responsiveness in emergencies and enact the mechanisms of command, control and cooperation between military and civil agencies to achieve integration of their roles while accomplishing the missions,” MoI said.

The security exercise will see the participation of authorities from Qatar and abroad. It will cover various scenarios based on all types of expected internal and external risks while hosting the mega sporting event.
