Qatar donates $2.3bn to provide quality education to people around the world

Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi said the country placed high importance on supporting the spread of education all around the world.
She said education was on top of Qatar’s development agenda and highlighted the nation’s almost $2.3bn aid for its support worldwide through strategic partnerships.
Al Nuaimi said this support enabled millions of students to access quality education. Such programmes also achieved tangible results, helping young people to contribute to the development and well-being of their communities.
Her observations came while attending a session titled ‘High-Impact Initiative on Transforming Education,’ under the theme ‘Learning to build a better future for all,’ on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, also attended the session.
Al Nuaimi stressed on the importance of having a joint commitment towards providing quality education for all. She said education was a common global interest and an essential driver for progress of all 17 of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme included several sessions on different nations’ experiences with the education transformation agenda and education financing. There were also opportunities for students and youth to exchange their views and experiences in their home countries.
Qatar is one of five pioneering countries leading the education transformation process. It was chosen for this honour by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during last year’s Transforming Education Summit.
This selection reflects the extent of the interest that Qatar attaches to supporting education at the national and international levels.
