Siraj Energy, a joint venture between Qatar Energy and Qatar Electricity and Water Co., signed two MoUs with Qatar Foundation and WOQOD with the aim of cooperation in photovoltaic (PV) energy and systems applications.

H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, and H E Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of Qatar Energy, was present during the signing ceremony.

The first MoU, signed by Siraj Energy and Qatar Foundation, represents a common commitment to sustainability and the development and implementation of policies that contribute to Qatar's long-term sustainability.

Siraj Energy will be able to research and assess the installation and use of PV systems to power Sidra Medicine, the Qatar Foundation's women's and children's hospital, and medical research center.

The analysis and evaluation will entail determining the most effective capacity to be cabled to existing systems while considering land area optimization, sustainability, and efficiency. By the end of the second quarter of 2022, Siraj Energy expects to have completed the study and evaluation.

Siraj Energy and WOQOD signed the second MoU, which facilitates Siraj Energy investment in the installation of PV systems in WOQOD stations (Rawdat Egdaim [347 kWp], and Golf Course [339 KWp] by utilizing available spaces and help achieve efficiency and sustainability requirements.

Siraj Energy will finance, engineer, construct, procure, test/commission, operate, and maintain the systems. Siraj Energy and WOQOD are targeting to complete the projects during the second quarter of 2022.

The new stations are scheduled to open in the middle of the third quarter of 2022, just in time for the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will be held in the fourth quarter of that year.

The two WOQOD stations will be the first to incorporate specific charging units for electric cars, with an average of 10 units in each station. To provide fast charging for vehicles, they will adhere to the highest technical standards.
