Qatar to facilitate the evacuation of foreign nationals and Afghan citizens: FM

According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar is facilitating the evacuation of foreign nationals, Afghan citizens, and others from Kabul.
In a recent interview, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that foreign nationals and Afghan nationals will be transited to Qatar and then sent to their respective countries or countries which are receiving them.
With over 7,000 evacuees recorded so far, HE highlighted that many of them will be received tonight, in addition to many of the evacuated people having been processed or sent to their respective countries, the US, or countries receiving them.
HE stated that Qatar will remain an impartial mediator through this process and maintained contact with all the parties which have assisted the country to serve in helping and supporting different foreign citizens who are living in Afghanistan.
With safety being the main priority, Qatar’s current goal is to facilitate people from their places to the airport, with the Qatari embassy playing a crucial role in the evacuation process for the media outlets operating in Afghanistan, in addition to some of the schools.
The Deputy Prime Minister explained that Qatar is trying its best to help evacuate individuals who wish to leave Kabul, with varying challenges being faced in safety, security, and logistics.
Furthermore, Qatar is currently trying to facilitate other countries which do not have access to reach their people.
Qatar is also calling upon the Taliban on these issues and urges other governments to do the same.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Qatar is urging the Taliban to protect civilians, particularly foreigners and diplomatic missions, and not to mistreat them in any way.
“We have seen some official statements from them ensuring the safety and security of foreigners. We are watching very closely and observing the situation on the ground. Until now we did not receive any report about a major crisis involving foreigners and we hope that it will not happen and we hope the Taliban will also act in a way to demonstrate to the world that the world can be with them,” he added.
