Qatar Foundation to host ‘Try-A-Tri’ triathlon event as part of sports day activities

Qatar Foundation (QF) has always been a hotspot of activities when it comes to national celebrations of any kind. On February 14, when the country holds its National Sport Day, QF will organise a wide range of activities for men, women and children on its premises.
QF’s ‘Try-a-Tri’ event will be a perfect way for anybody to get a taste of a triathlete’s life. The fun event — aimed at creating awareness about the sport and encourage more people to participate in it — is open to both adults and children alike.
It will start off with a 100M swim, followed by a 4km bike race and finishing with a 1.5km run around the campus. Registrations for ‘Try-A-Tri’ can me made at www.qf.org.qa/nsd-triathlon.
QF will host some women-only activities at the Education City stadium on Tuesday. Two-member women teams will compete in a functional fitness challenge made up of burpees, squats, mountain climbers and others. Fitness equipment like rowing machines and medicine balls will be used in the challenges. Interested contestants can register at www.qf.org.qa/nsd-womenonly.
The Education City stadium will also see two football competitions — for girls and women — on Tuesday between 9am and 1pm. The competitions will be played in a semifinal and final format.
While teams from Evolution, Paris Saint-Germain Academy, Qatar Academy Doha and Arab International School will compete in the all-girls category, players from Elite Academy, Qatar Sports Club, Leeds United and Al Rayyan Club will play for honours in the women’s category.
The Qatar Paralympic Committee and QF’s Ability Friendly Program will jointly host some special sporting activities for individuals with different abilities. Community members are encouraged to compete in games like wheelchair basketball and goal ball.
Numerous other activities will be organised on a first-come first-served basis throughout Education City’s spaces from 9am to 5pm. Chess, tennis, fencing, blindfold race and tug of war are some of the events open for both children and adults. Details of the day’s activities, timings and venue can be found on www.qf.org.qa/national-sport-day-2023.
In line with QF’s dedication to promoting sustainability, Education City will be a car-free zone on February 14. Visitors can park their vehicles in the Academy Car Park or Oxygen Park Parking, and use the Education City Tram to get around, or walk around Education City. More information is available at www.qf.org.qa/community/car-free.
