Qatar to host 85 sports events in 2024
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) unveiled its 2024 sports calendar, featuring 85 competitions — including 15 major international ones — on Wednesday.
The World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024, running from February 2 to 18 at different locations nationwide, will kick off the year in spectacular fashion.
The prestigious event serves as a crucial qualifying stage for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. It will be followed by The World Aquatics Masters Championship from February 23 to March 3. Both events will be held at the Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Center, and the Old Doha Port.
The Qatar Cricket Association will organize the Legends League in February. The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will also host its two major annual tennis events — the Qatar TotalEnergies Open (from February 11) and Qatar ExxonMobil Open (February 24 onwards).
The Qatar Golf Association is set to host the 2024 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters the same month.
March will see two major international events being held in the country. While the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will organize the Ooredoo Qatar Major 2024 padel event, the Qatar Volleyball Association is set to run the VW-Beach Pro Tour Elite16 tournament.
In April, the Qatar Gymnastics Federation will host the 2024 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup while the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association will host the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Shotgun.
The Qatar Basketball Federation will host the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in June.
The Qatar QTerminals Classic Squash Tournament, organised by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, will be held in September while the Volleyball World Beach Tour Finals will be held in December.
A total of 37 international championships will be held in Qatar in 2024, including the WTT Men’s Finals and WTT Star Contender (table tennis), Qatar Fencing Grand Prix – Epee, HH The Amir Sword International Show Jumping Championship, CHI Al Shaqab (both equestrianism), Doha Diamond League (athletics), Qatar International Taekwondo Open Championship, Qatar International Handball Championship, and Qatar International Weightlifting Cup.
Qatar will host 13 Asian events, including the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers -Windows 1 & 2, AFC U23 Asian Cup, Asian Junior Squash Open, and Asian Padel Championships.
On the Arab level, the Qatar Swimming Association will organize the Arab Age Groups Aquatics Championships from January 10 to 15.
Doha will host four Gulf events including the 26th GCC Golf Championships for adults & 15th GCC Golf Championships for youth, GCC U15 Basketball Championships, GCC Aquatics Championships and GCC Padel Championships.
There will also be a large number of local and community events throughgout the year.
