Qatar to join SPIEF 2021 as guest nation
Qatar-Russia relations are set to reach new heights as Qatar prepares to partake in Russia’s leading business event, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), as the guest nation this year.
Qatar’s participation at the prestigious global forum will cement its business and economic ties with Russia, with a plethora of new partnership agreements expected to be finalized between the two countries.
“Qatar traditionally participates in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This year’s status of a guest country is a great honor for us,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation in a recent meeting with Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation.
“SPIEF has always been and will forever stay the leading platform for establishing new business ties and signing partnership agreements. We take an interest in developing the bilateral dialogue between our countries for further strengthening of our cooperation and joint implementation of investment projects,” he emphasized.
Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation commented, “Relations between our countries are going through a good stage. We have signed a visa waiver agreement and launched direct flights. I am delighted to note that this year’s first large international economic event – the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum – will enjoy Qatar’s most active participation, which will facilitate further strengthening of our cooperation in various areas.”
Held under the patronage of the Russian President every year, the high-profile event is organized by Rosscongress Foundation and convenes individuals from leading Russian and international companies, political figures and business leaders from around the world.
The forum serves as a highly significant gathering for the business community to address challenges related to the business and economic sector in Russia, social issues and technological development.
The event was postponed from last year to 2021, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s edition is set to take place from June 2-5, under strict health and safety measures.
The previous edition of the forum, held in 2019, gathered over 19,000 participants from as many as 145 countries and saw the signing of some 745 business agreements.
