
Qatar Museums announces host of activities for December

Qatar Museums has launched several events and activities catering to a wide array of interests and artistic passions, to be hosted throughout December.
Members of the community can look forward to a range of culturally enriching programs designed to promote creativity and take art beyond four walls.
Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)
Square Kufic workshop - December 22 and 29 from 4 pm to 6 pm
The name of Square Kufic came from using black squares as a unit for measuring letters. Learn about the different designs of square kufic, including square, rectangle, circle, star, swirl etc. For more information, please email miaprograms@qm.org.qa
Monoprint for Adults Workshop - December 22 from 4 pm to 7 pm
In this one-day workshop, participants will create their own unique monoprint using different ink and layering techniques. For more information, please email miaprograms@qm.org.qa
Planet Kids Online - December 28 from 3 pm – 4.30 pm
Join MIA for “PLANET KIDS CLUB” an online monthly storytime, discussion and activity relating the museum to protecting our planet. Listen to a story related to the monthly theme, participate in a fun craft and learn more about museum objects. The sessions will also offer top tips on how to save our planet. Lecture: Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammed bin Thani Poetry
Darwish Al-Far Auditorium at NMoQ or via Zoom - December 11 from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Live demonstration: International Aviation Day
NMoQ Baraha - December 7 from 10 am to 7 pm
In celebration of International Civil Aviation Day, teams from Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Qatar Aeronautical Academy will lead a live demonstration teaching some valuable and interesting information about aviation sciences, and the advanced mechanisms and technologies that are used in the fields of navigation, aviation safety and meteorology. Grandma’s Hazawi between the past and present
Mohammed bin Jassim Al Khulaifi Library at NMoQ - December 11 and 25 from 4pm to 5pm

Qatar Heritage and Sport at NMoQ December 9 (Arabic) from 4 pm to 5 pm I December 5 and 12 (English) from 4 pm to 5 pm
In this guided tour, participants will learn about Qatar’s natural environment and cultural heritage and its relation to different types of sports. Fire Station: Artists in Residence
"Figures of Speech" WORKSHOP | Amna Al Muftah & Sarah Jayyousi: Screen Printing on Tote Bags
December 8 at Education Studio, Fire Station from 5.30 pm to 8 pm
Have you ever wanted to learn about screen-printing or try your hands on it? Join the session to learn simple screen-printing techniques that you can try yourself by creating designs and printing them onto your own tote bag. This workshop will be led by current Fire Station artists-in-residence Amna Al Muftah and Sarah Jayyousi.
Amna Al-Muftah is a visual artist, drawing inspiration from nature and the things she sees in her everyday life. In her practice, she makes pigments, dyes, and incorporates clay, fabric, and embroidery in her work. She holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCUarts Qatar, 2020.
Sarah Jayyousi is a visual artist who paints, prints, and photographs her surroundings based on their abstract view. She is drawn to hard edges, contrasting colors, and perspective. She has a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCUarts Qatar, 2020.
This workshop is part of the public programs' series in conjunction with the Virgil Abloh "Figures of Speech" exhibition at the Fire Station. You can register here.
