Qatar National Day Parade postponed indefinitely in solidarity with the people of Gaza
The Qatar National Day (QND) Parade on December 18, which transforms the Doha Corniche into a riot of colours every year, always brings people’s patriotic feelings to the fore.
However this year, the QND Parade has been postponed indefinitely in solidarity with the people of Palestine who have been under attack by Israeli occupation forces.
The attacks have escalated significantly in recent weeks, with the Israeli army bombing civilian sites in the Gaza Strip and cutting off electricity, water and emergency medical supplies to the city.
Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence HE Dr Khaled bin Mohammed Al Attiyah made the official announcement about the Parade’s postponement on Monday.
The decision was taken following a directive from HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
"Based on the directions of HH The Amir, May God protect him, this year’s National Day Parade for our armed forces will be postponed. This postponement is the least we can do about what is happening to our brothers in Gaza, which is genocide and crimes against humanity," Al Attiyah said.
