The Qatar National Library (QNL) is all set to host a number of vibrant events this month, offering enriching experiences in creativity and self-empowerment. The public will get to attend expert-led workshops which focus on traditional crafts of calligraphy and photography.

Thursday, August 3

The engaging series of events will kick off with a session of the ‘How I Do Series,’ which will shed light on ‘Online Resources for People with Reading Difficulties.’

Specially curated to support individuals with reading difficulties, the session will offer valuable insights into recommended databases and accessible format materials available at the Library.

Sunday, August 6

The QNL will host another session of the ‘How Do I Series,’ with the objective of acquainting patrons with its extensive collection of popular magazines and newspapers.

The two ‘How Do I Series’ sessions are designed to expand access to a wealth of information, regardless of a person’s reading capabilities.

Thursday, August 10

The QNL, in collaboration with the Arabic Calligraphy Academy in Qatar, will invite renowned calligrapher Youssef Shalar to share the secrets and skills of writing in Diwani calligraphy. It will aim to add an artistic touch to the written word.

Shalar will deliver a workshop illustrating his unique methodology for training in Diwani calligraphy, a technique that simplifies the primary shapes of letters through a geometric lens.

Wednesday, August 9 and Thursdays, August 15, 22, 29

“The Sira of Prophet Mohammed” will be presented in four sessions for children aged 7 to 14. The show is designed to encourage children to learn about the biography of Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him], providing valuable insights into his life and teachings. Consequently, they will gain a deeper understanding of history and faith.

Wednesday, August 16

Among the Library’s programme highlights will be “Little Storytellers.” A professional storyteller will help young children learn to read expressively and captivate their audiences with dramatic storytelling.

Children are encouraged to bring along their selected book and dress up to bring their story to life.

The empowering ‘Motivate Me’ series will also continue with “Aha Moment” on the same day. Participants can learn how to achieve significant moments of realization and enlightenment and gain renewed power to pursue their personal goals.

Thursday, August 17

As part of the young adults’ book club activities, “An Evening at the Library” will feature a thought-provoking discussion on the book Wonder by R J Palacio.

Saturday, August 19

Marking International Photography Day, the talented Abdulhadi Al Marri will be at the Library to explore the theoretical and practical aspects of photography. Participants will get to hone their skills with the camera while exploring the Library’s stunning architecture as the perfect backdrop.

Every Thursdays

The Chess Club, which will meet every Thursday, invites youngsters to come and learn the basics of the game to improve their focus and flex their creativity in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The Library encourages all members of the community to mark their calendars for these enriching events. For more information on the full programme calendar and to register to attend, please visit the Library’s website here.

The information can also be accessed at the QNL mobile app, which is free for download at both the App Store and Google Play.
