The Qatar National Library (QNL), in a push towards building a reading culture among children, has increased the collection of books available to them at the library.

The children’s collection has been steadily expanding since its inception and currently boasts of over 120,000 print books, said the library’s Manager of Children and Young Adults’ section Maram Al Mahmoud. Most of the books are available in multiple languages, reflecting Qatar’s diverse population.

The collection also offers books in French, Spanish, German, Urdu, and Italian. The extensive range of books and resources are expected to spark curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong passion for reading and learning among children.

“The growth in the collection ensures a wide variety of reading materials for children of all backgrounds and interests,” Al Mahmoud was quoted as saying.

“The library’s focus on promoting reading from an early age has contributed to cultivating a promising reading habit among children. The extensive collection, including various books across different genres, encourages children to explore and discover their interests,” she added.

The library seamlessly caters to both traditionalists and digital enthusiasts by providing them an array of resources in physical and online formats.

“Both online reading and physical book reading are popular among children. The library provides access to electronic resources, including e-books, e-magazines, and databases specifically designed for children. These online resources offer convenience and flexibility, allowing children to access reading materials anytime and anywhere,” said Al Mahmoud.

Children’s activities hosted at the library include educational toys, games, online resources, and events which spark curiosity and creativity among them.

“The library’s calendar is filled with engaging programmes such as interactive Storytime, creative workshops, early literacy programmes, book discussions, and science, arts, literature, and theatre programmes. The participation and positive feedback received from the community evidence the popularity of these activities,” Al Mahmoud concluded.
