Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate 15th anniversary with multiple concerts
The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) has been a part of the country’s art scene for a decade and a half.
The orchestra, filled with musicians from different countries and backgrounds, will mark its 15th anniversary by hosting a series of concerts that will appeal to audiences with different musical tastes.
The three-day music festival, which will run from October 26 to 28, will showcase the orchestra’s outstanding talents and versatility.
The festival will kick off with a family-friendly concert titled “Mozart: A Musical Sitcom.” It promises to transport viewers to the 18th century, with authentic costumes and historical characters from Mozart’s era.
It will be performed by QPO’s Cinemoon Ensemble and other special guests. While primarily targeting family audiences, the concert will also entertain adults who never outgrew their love for whimsical humour and classical music.
Merve Kenet Bulun, Founder and Artistic Director of Cinemoon Ensemble, said she was excited about the upcoming events.
“I’m happy that it’ll come back again on the October 27 as part of QPO’s 15th anniversary as this was a big highlight for the ensemble,” she said.
On October 27, the festival will continue with a performance titled ‘Music from the Baroque Courts.’ The concert will feature compositions from renowned European Baroque composers such as Bach, Handel, Lully, and Corelli.
QPO’s Doha Baroque Ensemble, along with talented musicians like oboist German Diaz Blanco, bassoonist Daniel Hrinda, and the Qatar Concert Choir, will bring the event to life.
The enchanting sounds of the harpsichord, played by Christoph Teichner, will add to the ambience.
Concurrently, the ‘Music from the Middle East’ concert will showcase the genius of Middle Eastern composers. It will include works by Lebanese composer Marcel Khalife, QPO’s Deputy Executive Director Dr Nasser Sahim, symphonic artist Dana Al Fardan, composer Wael Binali, award-winning violinist Maias Alyamani, and composer Hamed Al Naama.
The festival’s final day will present a trio of captivating concerts.
‘Pearls of the Philharmonic’ will showcase QPO’s exceptional talents by spotlighting soloists from the orchestra’s different sections.
The concert will feature an array of solo repertoire including works by Ravel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, and more.
‘Film Music’ promises to take audiences on a nostalgic ride through the iconic scores of blockbuster films like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Aladdin, and Mission Impossible.
Closing the festival in grand style will be ‘QPO on Tour,’ featuring pieces of music from countries the orchestra has toured in the past. This will include Syria, England, USA, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, and China.
All these concerts will be held in Auditorium 3 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Tickets for the performances will be available on the Q-Tickets website.
